The Upside-Down Kingdom

The Kingdom of God is unlike any other kingdom known to man. This is because it comes from a “different place.” In fact, the principles for effective living in God’s kingdom seem to not make sense, when compared to what is common in this world. These principles seem “upside-down!”

This series of ten messages will consider what the Bible teaches about the Kingdom principles that come from a different way of thinking. Why do they seem upside-down, and why do they actually make sense from God’s perspective? Prepare yourself!

This study will take us to “another place.”

June 3, 2018: “Tell Me About This Kingdom” – Have you ever been to Disney’s Magic Kingdom? Hate to break the bad news, but it’s not really magic. There is, however, a Kingdom unlike any other in existence. That is the Kingdom of God. Over the next ten weeks, we will discover the principles of this Upside-Down Kingdom and learn that it is truly the most magnificent Kingdom.

June 10, 2018: “How Do We Get In?” – Just how do you get into the Kingdom of God? Pastor Marlin explains how Jesus gave us great information on how to enter His Kingdom.

June 17, 2018: “Walk by Faith, Not by Sight” – Elder and guest speaker, Nathan Thompson, presents this message. World vision versus Christian vision. The upside-down teaching of seeing things with faith, rather than with our eyes.

June 24, 2018: “Freed to Be Slaves” – We oppose slavery. It is inhumane, and it takes away a person’s right to be autonomous and free. In the mind of the slave, freedom is the ultimate desire. But the truth is that we are all slaves, and always will be. The true question is: Who (or what) is our master?

July 1, 2018: “Do You Want to Be Great?” – Guest speaker, Ryan Denzer-Johnson, explains the upside-down way to be great in the eyes of God. Here’s a hint: it’s not worldly greatness.

July 8, 2018 – “Consider It Pure Joy” – Pastor Marlin returns from vacation with a teaching on trials, tribulations, and how to look at them with eyes of joy rather than sadness and worry.

July 15, 2018 – “Love Who?” – The Lord Jesus really shook things up when He taught the Sermon on the Mount. One of the most memorial passages is an instruction on who we are to love. Love you neighbor and hate your enemy, right? Nope. Jesus says to love our enemies.

July 22, 2018 – “When I’m Weak, I’m Strong” – In several places in the New Testament, Paul talks about a “thorn” which plagues him. But instead of being disheartened by it, he proclaims that when he is weak, he is strong. This upside-down way of thinking is because Jesus’ power is most evident in our lives when we are at our weakest.

July 29, 2018 – “Dying is Gain” – A lot of people think death is the end of the road. Death is met with fear and trepidation. But Paul writes that to live is Christ, and to die gain. Do you feel the same way?

August 5, 2018 – “Is There a Kingdom Retirement Plan?” – You’ve served the Lord. Spent months and years working for the Kingdom. Now it’s time to retire, right? Let the next generation have the opportunity to take up the mantle and further the Kingdom? The answer might surprise you.
